the part of that review that strikes me the most is "All in all, these guys aren’t doing anything terribly original..."
so how about you send off for local original bands to be reviewed outside of omaha for their one sheets and free out of town promo tim?
i guess this one bites you in the ass too.

I've read this six times and I still don't know what you're talking about.

it means how about tim starts sending out other omaha bands to out of town reviewers so they can use it for their press sheets too. how much promoting is everyone going to do for this band?
theres other bands in omaha that go europe yearly and even hawaii but its not like many of you know or care if they dont smile at you in benson.
this band cannot find a label to save their life however you'll give them a free out of town write up for their one sheet. can i get in line for a hand job too?

if anyone is curious the person named "really" is most likely in SHELTERBELT. I know they went to HAWAII, but (no offense shelterbelt guy/girl) but not many other people probably remember/care about that.
So basically what you are saying is, you want Tmac to do the promo that you are too lazy to do?
It's not like he hooked them up that phat or anything. The review only ran in OUR local paper, and what fucking difference does a PRESS KIT make anymore anyway? Has it helped your shitty band out of the hole you are stuck in?
Nice try homie.

This is bogus. I send out 900 press kits a month via email. Its easy, free and doesnt mean shit. I dont think another journalist asking for an outsider to write an unbiased review is a hand out. Make your own press. You know what gets bands press for thier one sheet? Consistancy. End of story. Be consistant. I don't care for It's True! but they are consistant in thier live performances and they are great musicians. If they would back that up with constant touring, they would have a record deal in no time. ANYONE can make an amazing SOUNDING record thanks to the art of studio magic. Just ask the engineers at ARC. It's not about who made your record or who mentions you anymore. The record industry is dead. Everything is word of mouth and based on public personification. Work hard, see results.

Not in shelterbelt. Don't need tmac's help. Just pointing out other bands could use the "promo" or "word of mouth" instead of only them. Not lazy either, I do just fine on my own. I guess I should have said up front that I'm really tired of hyped adult easy listening.
I do agree with Matt. If you tour constantly you score record deals.

dude, honestly, do you think that some record label guy is gonna be like "we gotta sign this band. i don't know how they pulled it off, but they got one piece of press from a city they don't live in!".
whenever local bands get hyped like this, everyone always freaks out and thinks it's going to lead to something, in this case it's cool because it's true IS out touring, and (i think) they are gonna do more. obviously if they are loved here, they can be loved anywhere as long as they keep plugging away. their success will come from being a great band with solid reliable dudes in it, not because some guy 2000 miles away gave them a mediocre review.
it's true! go for it! you guys seriously have a lot going for you, but (in my opinion) none of it has to do with hype or benson or coolness or popularity. you are a likeable band making great music, just go for it, work your hardest, and good shit will come your way.
i also think this is true for capgun, talking mountain, honeybee, (replace benson w/ slumberparty or hotel frank or whatever). There are also a bunch of great lincoln bands too right now.
honestly, if there is ONE THING, I MEAN ONE THING i have learned about/from playing music, it's that there is NO FORMULA to success, and the best thing you can do is stop worring about why/how/if other people get "popular", and just focus on your art. make the best, most interesting shit you can, and play it with all the same passion it was created with, and i feel like in the end, you will have your own true version of success.
blah blah blah what do i know???!!!

i do have to say i love how people talk on here. its indie slamomaha.com Well you're certainly adding to that mystique by posting anonymously. It's hard to take your comments with any perspective when we don't know who you are or what band you're in (or like, or whatever). Regardless, you missed the point of the column, which was that It's True is so ingrained in the local scene that it's almost impossible to read a review of their CD written by a local writer without wondering about the relationships involved. The problem applies to just about any local band, actually, and is more of a comment about the minuscule size of this town. Regardless, none of your concern over It's True will matter very shortly anyway, as today's blog entry will outline…

hey "really"
you lost respect for me? for what? standing up for guys that I think are nice people and a solid band that i s trying to work hard? I'm not super freaking out over their band, I've only seen them once. I live in Lincoln and dont hang out in Benson even when I am in Omaha...I just think you are being pretty lame in general.
Also, if you are gonna tell someone you lost repsect for them, you might wanna at least be man enough to say who you are. I mean, it's sort of a compliment coming from an anoymous shit talker random asshole like yourself.
I feel sorry for you man. So caught up in your own jealousy you are going to the level of anonymous shit talker on a messageboard. Something tells me I'll be just fine without your "respect".
OH YEAH I FORGOT HERCULES WENT TO HAWAII!!! So what, hardcore kids make press kits now too? Come on seriously dude...who are you?
tsitrainbow @ geeemailll if you wanna man up and explain yourself to me instead of being a pussy anymore.
