Here's your 2005 update from Bloodshot Records. Don't be afraid to spread
the good word!
Below you'll find current info on Bloodshot Records' 2005 new
release schedule, up-to-date tour info on Bobby Bare Jr. and Split
Lip Rayfield, and a sneak peak into our plans for SXSW 2005!
First thing's first: Great new releases are coming to take you away!
Bloodshot Records 10 Year Anniversary Compilation: Title: Who the
Hell Knows at This Point? (BS112, release date: Summer, 2005)
We've all been a bit too bizzzy pounding shots of Wild Turkey (burp) in
celebration of our 10-year anniversary to come up with a tit-title. Will
we call it Bloodshotista, or a Decade of Sin: 11 Years of Bloodshot
Records? Oh, the choices to ponder! Yeah, it's obvious we're still
working out the kinks, but you're going to be oh so delighted when you
catch word of all of the exciting guests we've gathered, all for your
listening pleasure! You'll hear glorious tracks from your favorite
Bloodshot artists, along with special guest appearances from My Morning
Jacket, 16 Horsepower, Mary Lou Lord, Ralph Stanley, Old 97's, 9 Pound
Hammer, and Cordero, just to name a few! Hey, hold on to your panties, k?
It's coming soon! We'll keep you posted on an official release date.
Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys, "Empty House" (BS114, release date:
2-22-05)
Let's face it. Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys are too good for their own
good, too out of step to get in step, and too country to be country. Rex
and the boys deliver on the promise that between nostalgia and progress
is timelessness. Within their realm of unabashed purveyors of straight,
hard-edged honkytonk, the band still manages to come off as fresh and
innovative.
Devil in a Woodpile, "In Your Lonesome Town" (BS117, release date:
3-8-05)
The Devil's gonna take you for a rough ride in the old pickup truck down
the muddy back roads behind the juke joints of the deep, deep south. Find
yourself a fat jelly roll, let its contents dribble down your chin all
dirty-like, and take a deep listen. These vibrant songs will take you
back to a place where men were hot for their women, women were hot for
their men, where rickety run-down back porches were oh so alive with
spirit and song, good company, and ample quantities of BBQ and booze. And
for all you Zeppelin fans out there, check out there awesome rendition of
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp!
Jim and Jennie and the Pinetops, "Rivers Roll On By" (BS118,
release date: April 28, 2005)
**Pass the rolls, please. They're new to the Bloodshot family.**
Subjects on this disc are personal but universal. These new songs are
about revenge, love, addiction, desperate sadness, and the thrill of
DANGER. Fans of the group may be surprised to hear drums, washboard, and
even Brad's new electric banjo, known as the Banjocaster. If you hear
pedal steel, lap steel, electric guitar, or an organ, YOU'RE HEARING
WRONG- that's the Banjocaster, the group's new secret weapon.
Come out and see the Jim and Jennie show at Bloodshot's Annual SXSW
Showcase at the Parish in Austin, TX on Saturday, March 19! (see SXSW
below.)
Scott H. Biram, "Dirty Old One Man Band" (BS122, release date: 3-22-05)Scott's a NEW MEMBER of the Bloodshot family, so let's make him
feel like he belongs, k?**
We're taking a DETOUR with this one; we'll be d**nED if this guy lands in
the Alt. Country Ghetto.
'Dirty Old One Man Band' successfully, and sometimes even violently,
lashes together blues, hillbilly, and country to form raucous punk and
godless metal. Biram isn't one of those dour singer-songwriters sitting
on a stool strumming songs about girls with big eyes and the romance of
dusty, deserted highways. HELL NO!! His yodeling, growling, leering and
brash preachin' and hollerin' are accompanied by SLOPPY riffs and licks
from his '59 Gibson and a pounding back beat brought forth by his
amplified left foot. YEEEEAH, BABY! It'll make you wonder why so many
bands with two members are so quick to brag about the meek racket they
can muster. We'll keep you updated on his whereabouts at SXSW 2005!
C'mon, Baby! Get your nuts and LET'S GO! Check out Scott H. Biram
at SXSW! We'll keep you posted on dates as they confirm.
Going-Ons...
SPLIT LIP RAYFIELD, "Should Have Seen It Coming" (BS113, release
date: 10-04-04)
Split Lip Rayfield is currently on an extensive 4-month long
HEADLINING TOUR. We're looking for review writers to check out these
shows! There's a whole mess of dates, because these guys are, after all,
one of the hardiest working bands. Have a look-see here: at:
www.bloodshotrecords.com/tour/
If you haven't witnessed the BAD ASS bluegrass speed metal MADNESS live
in the flesh, what's wrong with you? Busting out with 4-part vocal
harmonies while SHREDDING on their acoustic instruments including an
upright bass made out of a gas tank, these guys are so much FUN to see
live!
BOBBY BARE JR., "From The End Of Your Leash" (BS110, release date:
6-22-04)
Bobby Bare Jr. is gonna rock your pants off with his
not-to-be-missed HEADLINING TOUR! Come see what all of the praise is
about!
"Alt country as it should be, and so rarely is: Stax horn charts, Sticky
Fingers desperation, and get-in-the-van punk immediacy, nailed by an
unruly son of Nashville who used to front a twangy grunge band."
-Alex Pappademas SPIN (December, 2004)
With his big-as-the-room persona, the ability to rock the doors off the
most jaded of clubs and the genius for arrangement they display on the
stage and previous records, you would be forgiven for thinking that Bobby
and his band of merry makers have the musical focus of a laser beam.
They are, however, at the mercy of the muse at the head of their musical
leash. And make no mistake about it, she is a rambunctious,
freewheeling, unfettered, and, at times, unhinged little beast.
